Renmin Park Pottery Markets

February 5, 2015 by andy

Large colourful pottery vases in traditional and egg shapes, pottery market in Renmin Park, Chengdu, China. On an afternoon walk from my hotel I stopped by Renmin Park and was lucky to arrive at a time when a pottery market was on, the variety, patterns and colours of the pottery was quite remarkable and I hadn’t seen such large and sometimes unusually shaped vases before. I’m not a pottery buff so possibly this wasn’t so special for those who frequent pottery markets, but for me it was my first time to look around one and I was quite fascinated.

The photographs were taken with my little pocket 7 megapixel Canon Powershot A710 IS camera, but even so, I think the camera did a good job of capturing the colours and scene.
Situated in Chengdu China, Renmin Park or the People’s Park as it is also known, is about a 15 minute walk west from Chendgu’s central Tianfu Square. The Park is a great place to relax, socialize, and to taste that typical Chinese atmosphere with a tea house, mah-jong games, calligraphy and other cultural pastimes. One corner of the park is a favourite matchmaker’s area where information on available singles is left on display in the hope of finding a suitable marriage partner.
Apparently it’s also the perfect place to sip tea in an old cane chair while getting your ears cleaned by one of the parks professional ear cleaners, but I left that experience for my next visit to Renmin Park …
