HDR Photography Hong Kong

December 16, 2015 by andy

I stopped over in Hong Kong for a few days on a recent overseas trip and thought I would return to Victoria Peak to try out a few HDR pictures. It’s a pleasant but steep 15 minute ride in the Peak Tram before arriving at the top, named Peak Tower. I had taken a few night shots of the city from the Peak Tower a couple of years ago that had turned out quite well.

I set up my Manfrotto travel tripod in a quiet corner away from the crowd of people looking at the view. A grey and smoggy evening didn’t look good at all through the view finder, but surprisingly the HDR process made the final shot look fairly reasonable.

For Techies: Nikon D700 , 24-70mm lens , ISO 200, f/2.8, shutter speeds 1/400 – 1/25 sec, 5 shots

I took this HDR picture from the top of a building opposite Peak Tower, I just managed to take a few photos before a steady drizzle set in and sent me to find shelter at a nearby cafe.

For Techies: Nikon D700 , 24-70mm lens , ISO 100, f/2.8, shutter speeds 1/3 – 5 sec, 5 shots

I saw these old sheds from the bus as we drove past and thought they might be worth a few pictures. From the Tai O bus stop I walked the kilometre or so back to the sheds, on the way negotiating my walking access with a couple of Brahman bulls grazing from the footpath.

For Techies: Nikon D700 , 24-70mm lens , ISO 100, f/11, shutter speeds 1/25 – 3/5 sec, 5 shots
